Can we imagine the future if we have not a sense of the past?

  1. I think it would be hard to imagine a future without a sense of the past because we have no roots or history to base it off of. On a human level, I think a lot of our decisions and ideas come from where and when we grew up and how we relate to the world and the people we interact with. Not having a sense of the past might give a sense that there was nothing to relate to. On the other hand, not having a sense of my past might allow me to choose to do something based solely off of what I wanted to do and maybe not off of the predispositions as to what I’m expected to do. On a history level, imagining a future without a sense of history could be really dangerous and we would end up making the same mistakes as a culture as we have in the past.
